ENG : This type of lantern is called "Tung Huang" in Teochew dialect (the dialect that was spoken by the largest group of Chinese descendants in Thailand). Normally they could be found in Chinese shrines and temples. People believe that they are the place where good spirits reside. There are different types of Tung Huang. For example, Yellow Tung Huang are used for worshipping gods' spirit while white Tung Huang are used for worshipping deceased' spirits. Tung Huang could be bought in Chinese offering stores. Usually, people write their own names on the Tung Huang before hanging them on temple's ceiling for auspiciousness.
