นาฬิกาเรือนนี้ที่เจ้าคุณปู่ให้พ่อมามีอายุมากกว่า 200 ปี แต่ก่อนที่พ่อจะมอบให้ลูก เจ้าจงเอาไปที่ร้านขายนาฬิกาที่ถนนสายแรกแล้วบอกเขาว่าฉันต้องการขายนาฬิกาเรือนนี้ ดูซิเขาตีราคาให้เท่าใด?”
"This is a watch your grandfather gave me and this is more than 200 years old, but before I give it to you go to the watch shop on the first street, and tell him I want to sell it, & see how much it is".
ลูกชายจึงตรงไปที่ร้านขายนาฬิกาและกลับมาบอกพ่อว่า “ข่างซ่อมนาฬิกาบอกว่า ฉันจะรับซื้อในราคาเพียง $5 เพราะมันเก่าแล้ว”
The son went to the watch shop and then came back to his father, & said, "the watchmaker said he'll pay 5 dollars because it's old".
พ่อสั่งว่า: “จงไปที่ร้านขายกาแฟ” ลูกชายก็ไปที่ร้านกาแฟ และกลับมาบอกพ่อว่า คนขายกาแฟบอกว่าเขาจะให้ราคาเพียง $5”
The father said : "Go to the coffee shop". The son went to the coffee shop and then came back to his father, and said :
"The coffeemaker said he'll pay $5".
พ่อสั่งว่า: “จงไปที่พิพิธภัณฑ์ แล้วเอานาฬิกานี้ให้เขาดู” ลูกชายชาย
จึงไปที่ พิพิธภัณฑ์ทำตามที่พ่อสั่ง และกลับมาบอกพ่อว่า “เขาเสนอราคาให้หนึ่งล้านเหรียญ ($1,000,000) สำหรับนาฬิกาเรือนนี้”
The father said : "Go to the museum and show that watch".
The son went to the museum and then came back, and said to his father: "They offered me a million dollars for this piece".
พ่อพูดกับลูกชายว่า: “พ่อต้องการสอนลูกว่า ที่คู่ควรกับลูกคือที่ซึ้งสมน้ำสมเนื้อทรงคุณค่ากับลูกเท่านั้น” อย่าถลำตัวไปเกลือกกลั้วในที่ต้อยต่ำไร้คุณค่า และอารมณ์เสียเมื่อเขาไม่เห็นคุณค่าของลูก อย่าทนอยู่ หรืออยู่ทน เมื่อสถานที่ตรงนั้นไม่เหมะกับลูก”
The father said : "I wanted to let you know that the right place values your value in the right way. Don't put yourself in the wrong place and get angry if they don't value you. don't stay in a place that doesn't suit you".
