I promise to take you home !!
I was in Taman Negara NP, Sungai Relau, Malaysia in April 2012, hoping to get some photos of Garnet Pittas. There were few places that had high possibility to find the targeted birds, therefore, we spited into few groups to look for them.
I was at a site approximately 200 meters from the gate, spent the whole morning without seeing any of them, while other team found one around noon time. I tried again in the afternoon, but without success.
The next morning, friends went up the hill to photograph eagles. I decided to stay behind, tried again to look for Garnet Pitta with a Malaysian friend.
As we started, the sound of the bird was heard. I was hesitated quite a bit as we had to go off trail. However, I traveled a long way for this special bird and now it was here, so we moved forward.
We followed the bird’s sound to the direction where we thought the bird was and not forgot to make some marks along the paths, so that we could get out of the forest on our way back.
We spent hours, and were so happy to see the bird finally.
But as soon as we turn our backs, the trees and everything around us were the same everywhere. We got lost!! (I guessed, we were too close to the bird’s nest, and the bird dragged us around in circle).
We spent at least 5-6 hours walking in the circle and still could not locate the way that would lead us out of the forest. I even planned how to spend the night in that forest without a rain cloth, foods, source of light etc.
Fortunately, we managed to get out of the forest just before dark! That was one of the unforgettable experiences in my whole life.
The above photo was taken in March 2013. I especially like this pose.
