Interviews can be high stress, anxiety-driving situations, especially if it’s your first interview. A little practice and preparation always pays off. While we can’t know exactly what an employer will ask, here are 10 common interview questions along with advice on how to answer them. The questions include:
Tell me about yourself: Interviewers like to hear stories about candidates. Make sure your story has a great beginning, a riveting middle, and an end that makes the interviewer root for you to win the job.
What interests you about this role?: Highlight your skills that make you a great fit for the position and also explain why you’re passionate about the company and its mission.
What are your biggest strengths?: Identify 3-4 qualities that make you a great candidate and back them up with examples from past experiences.
What are your biggest weaknesses?: Be honest and humble when answering this question. Choose a skill that you’re working on and explain how you’re taking steps to improve.
Why should we hire you?: Showcase your skills, experience, and enthusiasm for the role. Explain how your unique background will be a great asset to the company.
How do you handle criticism?: Acknowledge that criticism can be hard to take but explain how you use it to improve and grow.
What’s your experience with X?: If the interviewer asks you about a particular skill, be prepared to explain your experience in detail.
What is your greatest accomplishment?: Discuss a project or task you’re particularly proud of. Explain the challenges you faced, the solutions you implemented, and the results you achieved.
What salary are you expecting?: Before the interview, research the average salary for the role and have a range in mind. Be ready to explain why you’re worth the salary you’re asking for.
Do you have any questions for us?: This is your opportunity to show the interviewer that you’ve done your research and are genuinely interested in the role. Ask questions that will help you better understand the position, the team, and the culture.
