ทำไมควรต้องเรียนรู้คำด่าหรือคำสบถเวลาใช้ชีวิตอยู่ในต่างประเทศ (Episode 1)
แน่นอนว่าการใช้ชีวิตอยู่ในต่างประเทศ ไม่ว่าจะเพื่อไปเรียนต่อ ทำงาน หรือจะด้วยเหตุผลใดก็ตาม เมื่อมีการเปลี่ยนแปลงที่อยู่เป็นประเทศอื่น เราคงต้องเรียนรู้หลายๆอย่างเพื่อเอาตัวรอด หรือเพื่อให้การใช้ชีวิตในประเทศใหม่เป็นไปได้อย่างราบรื่น ไม่มีปัญหา และเพื่อให้เราสามารถใช้ชีวิตในประเทศใหม่ได้อย่างมีความสุขและมีประสิทธิภาพสูงสุด การเรียนรู้คำด่า คำแซว คำสบถ หรือคำพูดไม่ดีของประเทศนั้นๆก็เป็นเรื่องที่สำคัญ คงไม่ต้องถึงขนาดเป็นผู้เชี่ยวชาญแต่ควรพอรู้ไว้บ้างก็จะดี
ผู้เขียนขอแชร์ประสบการณ์ตัวเองตอนที่ไปเรียนต่อและทำงานที่ประเทศอเมริกา ช่วงที่ไปเรียนแรกๆก็เจอเพื่อนๆคนอเมริกันแซว แหมตอนนั้นเราก็ยังสาวเนอะ ก็ต้องมีบ้างแหล่ะ อิอิ แต่ตอนนั้นก็ต้องบอกเลยว่า "งง" ไม่เข้าใจว่าเขาพูดอะไร แซวเราว่าอย่างไรบ้าง เอ๊ะ ... หรือเขาด่าเราอยู่หรือเปล่าก็ไม่แน่ใจ ตอนนั้นก็ได้แต่ยิ้มแหยๆตามเรื่องไปกับเขา ในใจก็คิดว่า "เดี๋ยวเถอะแก อย่าให้ตรูด่าแกบ้างนะ ..." ตอนนั้นก็เลยทำให้เริ่มจุดประกาย ถามเพื่อนๆอเมริกันว่าเวลาจะพูดสบถ มีคำพูดอะไร ว่าอย่างไรบ้าง ก็มีการศึกษาเพิ่มเติมเองด้วยเวลาเราดูหนังที่โน่น หลังจากนั้นก็พอเอาตัวรอดไปได้ระดับหนึ่ง จนกระทั่งมาเจอเพื่อนที่ทำงาน เขาเป็นคนแม็กซิกัน เราชอบคุยกันผ่านโปรแกรมแชทในที่ทำงาน เราสามารถคุยกันโดยการพิมพ์โต้ตอบกันไปมาแบบ real-time เราเป็นเพื่อนที่ค่อนข้างสนิทกันและจะเป็นแบบชอบแซวกันไปมาตลอด มีอยู่วันหนึ่งเราก็พูดคุยกันตามปกติโดยผ่านโปรแกรมแชทนี้ระหว่างทำงาน แล้วเราก็เริ่มแซวกันไปมา ด่ากันไปมา ทำงานไปก็เขียนด่ากันไป เนื่องจากเราเป็นคนต่างชาติ ก็ต้องยอมรับว่าเรามีข้อจำกัดทางด้านคำด่า สุดท้ายคิดอะไรไม่ออกก็เลยพิมพ์คำว่า "Son of a Bitch!" แล้วเพื่อนเราคนนี้ก็เงียบไปเลย ไม่เขียนตอบกลับมา จนเราว่างจากงานเลยเดินไปหา เขาก็ไม่พูดกับเรา เราก็งงเดะ ถามว่าเป็นอะไรก็ไม่ตอบ ถามอยู่ 2-3 ครั้งก็ไม่พูด เราก็เลยไม่พูดกับเขาบ้าง เป็นอย่างนี้ไปอยู่เกือบอาทิตย์ จนวันหนึ่งเรากำลังเดินไปที่รถหลังเลิกงานเพื่อกลับบ้าน ก็เจอเพื่อนคนนี้ เขาก็เดินเขามาหาเราแล้วถามเราว่า "เราเข้าใจคำว่า Son of a bitch อย่างไร" เราก็บอกว่าก็เป็นคำด่า เราได้ยินมาจากทาง TV ก็เห็นเขาด่ากันอย่างนี้ เขาเลยบอกเราว่า คำว่า bitch จริงๆคือเอาไว้เรียกสุนัขตัวเมียที่อยู่ๆก็คลอดลูกโดยไม่รู้ว่าลูกสุนัขพวกนี้มีตัวไหนเป็นพ่อสุนัข ก็จะเรียกสุนัขตัวเมียเหล่านี้ว่า bitch ... แล้วเขาก็พูดต่อว่า เขาก็ไม่มีพ่อ ไม่รู้ว่าใครเป็นพ่อ ทำให้เขาเสียใจที่เจอเราด่าเขาแบบนั้น แต่เนื่องจากเราเป็นเพื่อนกันมาก่อน หลังจากที่เขาทำใจได้ เขาเลยมาคิดว่าเราคงจะไม่รู้ความหมายและคงไม่ตั้งใจที่จะด่าเขาแบบนี้ เขาเลยมาถามเพื่อให้แน่ใจ เราเศร้ามากเลยที่ได้ยินแบบนี้ ขอโทษเพื่อนคนนี้แล้วบอกว่าเราจะไม่มีทางว่าเขาแบบนี้ถ้าเรารู้ความหมายที่แท้จริงมาก่อน หลังจากนั้นเราก็กลับมาเป็นเพื่อนที่ดีต่อกันเหมือนเดิม
เรื่องนี้ถือว่าจบแบบ happy ending ที่เพื่อนคนนี้ยังให้โอกาสโดยการมาถามเพื่อให้แน่ใจ แต่ในบางครั้งคนเราอาจจะไม่มีโอกาสนั้น ทำให้ยิ่งต้องเตือนตัวเองว่า เวลาไปอยู่ต่างประเทศ ไม่ว่าจะเป็นประเทศไหน การเรียนรู้คำด่าหรือคำสบถก็เป็นเรื่องที่สำคัญ เราควรต้องเรียนรู้ว่ามีคำอะไรบ้าง หมายความว่าอะไร และมันหนักหรือเบาแค่ไหน ใช้พูดกับใคร เพื่อนสนิทหรือใช้พูดกับคนทั่วไป ... เพื่อการใช้ที่เหมาะกับกาลเทศะ จะได้ใช้ชีวิตอยู่ในประเทศนั้นๆได้อย่างมีความสุข
ไว้ว่างๆใน post ครั้งหน้าๆ จะมาแชร์คำด่าหรือคำสบในภาษาอังกฤษที่ควรรู้ เพื่อประโยชน์ของเพื่อนๆที่กำลังจะไปหรือกำลังใช้ชีวิตอยู่ในต่างประเทศ (ที่พูดภาษาอังกฤษ) ถ้าอยากรู้ อย่าลืมติดตาม "Culture Butterfly by Nina" นะคะ
"Why we need to learn the "curse words or swear words" when living in a foreign country?"
(Episode 1)
When we are living in a foreign country, for whatever reasons, we need to learn new local knowledge and skills in order to survive, to live happily and peacefully, or to be productive as much as we can. Learning the curse words or swear words of the local language is also important. You don't need to be an expert, but just to know them enough.
I would like to share my personal stories during my time when I was in America to study and to work afterward. When I was studying in the university, one of my American friends teased me by saying something. At that time, I was quite young and new to America so I really did not fully understand the words he was saying to me. I was laughing, just to go along with him. I really had no clue if he was just teasing me or cursing me. So, it was a starting point for me to start learning the curse words whenever I could. I asked around from my friends and also learned from TV. I learned enough to get by with my daily life until I was working after I graduated. I had one of my close friends there at work and he is a Mexican. We often used the chat program at work where we could chat real-time by typing on our computers. There was one time when we were at it as usual, chatting and working ... and then we started to tease each other by writing back and forth. Being a foreigner from Thailand, I had to admit that I had limited curse words in English. So, when I was out of the curse words, I typed ... "You ... Son of a Bitch!" ... and after that he just did not respond back. I went to talk to him afterward and he was just angry with me and did not say a word back to me. I asked him a couple of times and again no response from him so I gave up. It had been like this for about a week until one day, I was walking to my car after work. He came to me and asked me how I understood the word "Son of a Bitch" and I told him that I learned it from TV and they were just curse words. So, he told me the meaning of the word "bitch." It meant the female dog that had puppies but did not know the male dog that fathered these puppies. He also was born not knowing his father so he was really upset when I said those curse words to him. When he calmed down a bit, he thought that I might not know the real meaning and did not mean to call him that because we had been friends for years so he decided to ask me. I apologized to him big time and that I really did not know the real meaning and there was no way that I would use these words to hurt him intentionally if I knew the real meaning. He forgave me and we became friends again.
Luckily, it was a happy ending for me this time, only because my friend gave me the chance to explain myself. In real life, sometimes we will not get the chance. So, the merit of this story is that it is important to learn curse words or swear words of the local language when you live in a foreign country, just enough to learn what those words are, their real meanings, whom you should say those curse words to ... only to close friends or to people in general ... to ensure you use them at the right time and place so you can survive and live happily and peacefully in that foreign country.
