In fact, a small, teeny-weeny act of kind gestures such as open the door for others, allow a person who is in a hurry to jump the queue in front of you (be mindful that you are the last one in the queue, otherwise you might be in trouble from your kind act if the people in the queue behind you are not happy with it!) could make the recipient feel lucky and grateful.🙏
Several neuroscience of empathy and compassion studies and related books found that when you are kind to others, the pleasure and rewarding regions of your brain light up as if you were the recipient of the good deed – not the giver. Interesting huh? 😃The brain cells or neurons will fire to one another, and that make you feel good, warm and happy from your own kind act.
The truth is when you help others, give others or you make them feel happy, in return you feel happy from your giving because you realise that hmm...it is good to be able to help others. You feel good about it! 😇😃
Some studies even suggested that when you have empathy for others and help them out, you tend to realise that in fact your problem is not that bigger deal any longer.
Remember, it doesn’t need to be a big or expensive present or tangible objects but small acts of kindness (a gentle smile, listen to their problem attentively, open the door for someone or even carry things for those who need help or support) can have a huge impact by which you are making their day more pleasant.
Mine? I do the above mentions all the times. Recently, while running, I always wave to a runner who is on the opposite direction. No, I don’t even know him/her. Sometimes, I give a gentle smile or a gentle nod and most of the times my act was reciprocated. It is an appropriate and understanding protocol between the runners. Meaning we give support to one another! 🙋🏻🙋♀️🏃♀️🏃👋
Also, if I realise that a group of people walking ahead of me, I would move myself out of their way slightly (especially during the pandemic, it is a must). Just to give them personal space (I honestly don’t think that anybody want to smell my sweat! Yuk!!) 🤮🤮🤣
A gentle reminder: do not over-giving especially if that overact of giving will make you or your family members suffer! 🤦🏻♂️😞 That is not great. You need to know the balance. Perhaps, the Buddhism’s philosophy of ‘the middle ground’ might be brought into your consideration when you are about to give something to others. 😇
Another reminder: before you want to help others, perhaps ask yourself ‘Have I ever give myself or do myself any kindness?’ 🤔 This is vital. You must give yourself love and kindness before you can genuinely offer it to others. 💕
