A View

Time is like a moving window,

Through which we see life's span;

The past is like a picture

That's hanging on the pane.

We can't go back and change it,

We can't make it new;

But we can learn from it,

And make the future true.

The present is the window-frame,

That holds the picture fast;

We can't see what's coming,

But we can see the past.

So let us make the present bright,

And fill it with good cheer;

For the future is the picture

That we are framing here.

Let us make the picture fair,

And let us make it true;

For the picture that we make

Will be the picture we see

When life's moving window closes

And we come to the end.
