One of our all-time favourite. children's books that even adults still enjoy reading is Charlotte's Web. This novel is written by American author E. B. White and illustrated by Garth Williams. Charlotte's Web was published in 1952 and has since remained popular until today.
.
.
The novel tells the story of a friendship and love between a little girl, Fern, and a livestock pig named Wilbur and a barn spider named Charlotte. When Wilbur is in danger of being slaughtered by the farmer, Fern begs her dad to keep him.
.
.
The author of Charlotte's Web also teaches us about the life and death. In fact, Charlotte attempts to help save Wilbur's life a few times. She writes messages praising Wilbur (such as "Some Pig" or "Terrific") in her web in order to persuade the farmer to let him live.
.
.
"Why did you do all this for me?" Wilbur asked. "I don't deserve it. I've never done anything for you."
"You have been my friend," replied Charlotte. "That in itself is a tremendous thing. I wove my webs for you because I liked you. After all, what's a life, anyway? We're born, we live a little while, we die.....By helping you, perhaps I was trying to lift up my life a trifle..."
.
Who else has never read Charlotte's Web? Who else has not cried after reading it?
.
We believe most readers of all ages might have cried while reading this book. This book was also adapted into a movie. No wonder why Times considers Charlotte's Web one of the best children's novels in the World.
