KMITL Develops AI-Driven Drone System for Detecting Toxic Substances in Agricultural Produce
Bangkok, Thailand — 2025 — King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL) continues to strengthen its position as a hub of technological innovation with a groundbreaking project that harnesses artificial intelligence (AI) and drone technology to ensure food safety.
The initiative, led by the Faculty of Engineering, focuses on developing AI-powered drones capable of detecting toxic residues in crops—a step forward in addressing both public health concerns and agricultural sustainability.
This research combines AI-based image analysis with precision drone systems to conduct real-time surveillance of agricultural produce. By identifying chemical contamination and pesticide residues directly in the fields, the system enhances the efficiency of inspections while reducing dependence on manual labor and laboratory testing.
The approach not only speeds up the detection process but also provides farmers with immediate insights to improve their cultivation practices.
During the project’s presentation, the research team emphasized its potential impact on food safety and environmental sustainability.
