When you are wandering around the Colosseum or the Roman Forum, don’t forget to look beneath your feet.
2.
Via Sacra or Sacred Way in English, the name stems from its course through some of ancient Rome’s holiest sites. Supposedly used from the 5th century BC, served as the primary road, extended from the highest point of the Capitoline Hill, passing through significant religious locations within the Roman Forum where it held its widest stretch, and reached all the way to the Colosseum.
Via Sacra was at the center of everything in Ancient Rome; as the heart of social, religious, government, and cultural importance. Moreover, the street hosted celebrations for Roman victories, with triumphal marches following any war conquests.
