Perched 40 meters above the Roman Forum and 51 meters above sea level. Palatine Hill is the most central of the famous seven hills, considered to be the birthplace of the Italian capital and is believed to have been inhabited since the year 1,000 BC.
During the Roman Empire, Roman citizens belonging to the upper class settled in Palatine Hill and built palaces, of which important traces are still preserved.
