Elephants are benevolent friends of all wild animals.

Elephant footprints are the infrastructure that elephants have built by nature, providing a resource for all living things to sustain their life energy. This can be compared to "mindfulness," a structure encompassing all actions, ensuring that "meteorology" (environment) and "genetics" (biology) are harmoniously integrated.
Elephants walk thoughtfully, leaving meticulous footprints, planning the forest ecosystem so that all life (plants and animals) can thrive together.
...This is similar to the Buddha's teachings on walking meditation, which contributes to the development of wisdom and the extension of loving-kindness to all living things.
Walking meditation is a folk tale integrating the Buddhist practice of "meditative wisdom" with the folk tradition of elephant lovers, passed down since the Siamese kingdom. It has become a pattern in which Thai people continuously practice mindfulness and can provide warmth to people of other nationalities.
This means that human footprints are smaller than elephant footprints, signifying that wise reflection (yonisomanasikara) is the broadest virtue in Buddhism, which humans must cultivate to become aware, awakened, and joyful, adapting to the suffering that encompasses the ecosystem, food cycle, and numerous biological systems on Earth.
...Furthermore... Those who have good friends should live their lives according to the principle of Appamada, or the beginning of Right View, which means not being negligent in all virtues.
(Buddhist Dictionary, Dhamma Edition 2013: 3)
Therefore, having good friends is a philosophy that ethnic groups in the Mekong sub-region have integrated, blending Buddhism with ancient beliefs and values inherited from their ancestors.
