Thailand Advances Soft Power Through the 15th Thai Silk Festival and The Next Big Silk Designer Contest 2026
Ministry of Culture Showcases Thai Silk as a Creative Economy Driver on the Global Stage
Thailand’s Ministry of Culture is stepping up efforts to promote the country’s cultural assets and creative economy through the launch of the 15th Thai Silk Festival to the World and The Next Big Silk Designer Contest 2026, positioning Thai silk as a key component of the nation’s soft power strategy and a platform for emerging fashion talent.
Speaking at the press conference, Mr. Prasop Riangngoen, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, emphasized that Thai silk is not only a valuable cultural heritage but also an important economic asset capable of generating income, creating jobs, and supporting sustainable community development.
The initiative is organized through collaboration between the Ministry of Culture, the Thai Silk and Culture Promotion Association, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the Office of the Vocational Education Commission, the National Research Council of Thailand (NRCT), the Public Relations Department, and other public and private sector partners.
One of the event’s key highlights is The Next Big Silk Designer Contest, which serves as a platform for nurturing the next generation of fashion designers and textile innovators. This year, the competition has attracted participation from 79 educational institutions nationwide, including vocational colleges and universities, involving more than 1,000 lecturers and students specializing in fashion and textile design.
The festival also highlights Thailand’s use of cultural diplomacy as a tool for international engagement. In 2026, the event will welcome participation from 72 embassies, 18 honorary consulates, and ambassadors from 36 countries who will take part in a special Thai silk fashion showcase, reflecting the growing international recognition of Thai silk and Thai craftsmanship.
The 15th Thai Silk Festival to the World will take place on June 6, 2026, at the Royal Thai Navy Convention Hall in Bangkok. The event will feature the final 30 designs from The Next Big Silk Designer Contest, cultural exhibitions representing 41 provinces, and a showcase of premium Thai silk products from across the country.
In addition, a special exhibition will be held on June 9, 2026, at Nex Hall, Siam Paragon, featuring more than 250 contemporary Thai silk fashion creations designed by students and emerging designers. The exhibition aims to introduce Thai silk to both local and international audiences while creating new opportunities for Thailand’s fashion and creative industries.
As Thailand continues to promote its creative economy agenda, the Thai Silk Festival has evolved beyond a cultural showcase into a strategic platform that connects heritage, fashion, tourism, education, and international cooperation. The initiative reflects the country's ambition to elevate Thai silk from a traditional textile to a globally recognized symbol of Thai creativity and cultural excellence.
