AWC Partners with Australia's MONA to Develop Chao Phraya Cross-River Cable Car and MONA Bangkok
Asset World Corp Public Company Limited (AWC) has announced a landmark partnership with Australia's renowned Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) to develop two transformative projects along the Chao Phraya River: the Sustainable Cross-River Cable Car Bangkok to MONA Bangkok and MONA Bangkok, a new world-class immersive art destination.
The collaboration aims to strengthen Bangkok's position as a leading global destination for sustainable tourism, contemporary art, and cultural experiences.
Sustainable Cross-River Cable Car
One of the project's highlights is the proposed "World's First Sustainable Cross-River Themed Cable Car," representing an investment of more than THB 2 billion.
The cable car is planned to connect Asiatique The Riverfront Destination with AWC's future mixed-use development on Charoen Nakhon Road through an environmentally friendly transportation system.
According to AWC, the system will feature advanced energy-efficient technology, international safety standards, and a design without support towers in the middle of the Chao Phraya River.
The project is currently under development.
Introducing MONA Bangkok
AWC also unveiled plans for MONA Bangkok, developed in collaboration with Australia's internationally acclaimed Museum of Old and New Art.
Rather than replicating MONA Hobart, the new museum will be uniquely designed for Bangkok, celebrating Thailand's artistic identity while serving as a global platform for cultural exchange, immersive experiences, and contemporary creativity.
The venue will showcase works by both Thai and international artists while integrating art, technology, architecture, and storytelling.
A New Landmark for Bangkok
AWC said both projects reflect its "Building Better Future" vision by combining sustainable mobility, world-class architecture, and contemporary art into one integrated destination.
The announcement was attended by senior representatives from the Thai Government, Tourism Authority of Thailand, Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, the Government of Tasmania, the Australian Embassy, MONA executives, and leading business partners.
MONA Looks Forward to Collaborating with Thai Creatives
MONA Founder David Walsh said the partnership marks an important opportunity to bring decades of museum innovation to Bangkok.
Meanwhile, Leigh Carmichael, CEO of DarkLab and Creative Director of MONA Bangkok, said:
"We are absolutely delighted to partner with AWC on this exciting mega-project. We look forward to meeting Thai artists, designers and creative communities as we embark on this remarkable journey together."
Once completed, the two projects are expected to establish a new international landmark for Bangkok while reinforcing Thailand's role as a global hub for culture, creativity, and sustainable tourism.
