*The author has conducted Buddhist-based research and field experiments over a period of 13 years in Yasothon, Nakhon Phanom, Sakon Nakhon, and Sisaket Provinces, Thailand.
Research Background
This study is based on two principal sources of evidence.
The first source consists of the author's longitudinal research records compiled during participation in the legendary Self-Reliance Meditation laboratory. Between 2008 and 2020, the author documented personal observations, physiological perceptions, and experiential data obtained from 103 meditation sessions, each lasting 72 hours.
The complete research journal comprises 309 pages and was developed at Wat Pa Wang Nam Thip and its affiliated network in Yasothon Province.

The second source is derived from the implementation of the Surin/Thailand International Folklore Festival (SIFF/ThailandIFF), which has been continuously organized from 2006 to 2026. During its twenty-year operation, the festival has welcomed approximately 5,000 international performers representing 32 countries.
The festival serves as a living platform for the I-BOWON model, consisting of:

B – Ban (Local Communities)
O – Organizations
W – Wat (Buddhist Temples)
N – Government and Community Networks
The I-BOWON platform integrates cultural exchange with environmental, social, and spiritual well-being through activities that include interprovincial travel, overnight stays in clean, quiet, safe,
and peaceful environments, cultural performances in Buddhist temples, alternating periods of physical movement and meditative stillness, consumption of locally sourced food, exposure to natural landscapes and clean-energy environments, and public peace-promoting activities. The program is implemented over a seven-day, six-night itinerary covering six to seven provinces in Thailand.
Observations collected throughout the program indicate that many international participants gradually developed greater appreciation for cultural diversity and reported enhanced awareness of inner calm and peaceful coexistence.
Drawing upon thirteen years of Buddhist-based research and field experimentation, the author proposes that the cultivation of inner peace requires sustained and repeated practice within an environment that incorporates the five fundamental conditions described in Buddhist philosophy:
climate (weather), living conditions, mental state, karma (human actions), and Dhamma (natural truth). Within the present research framework, these conditions are managed through eleven controlled variables in an experimental setting referred to as the Hibernation Laboratory, or Human Bio-Energy Management Laboratory.

Twelve Hibernation Laboratories (Human Bio-Energy Management Laboratories)
The research sites comprise twelve forest monasteries of the Dhammayuttika Nikaya tradition under the guidance of Phra Ajarn Dr. Boonchuan Thammaghosako, who developed and supervises the Buddhist research methodology based on the long-standing tradition of intensive meditation and contemplative practice.

To strengthen the scientific credibility of this interdisciplinary research methodology, the author invited Prof. Dr. Ashwani K. Gupta, an internationally recognized mechanical and energy engineering scholar from the University of Maryland,
to participate in an independent field verification of the I-BOWON framework. The field study was conducted between 14–16 December 2024 at three operational research sites: Elephant Village and Buffalo Village in Surin Province, and Ban Non Du and Ban Phrai Phatthana in Sisaket Province. The observations and findings from these field investigations are presented in the following sections.
