TOOL FOR AWAKENING& PEACE in SURIN/Thailand International Folklore Festival.
(7) SIFF/ThailandIFF: A Tool for Spiritual Awakening and Global Peace
7.1 The ThailandIFF Paradigm: Cultivating Peace through Mindful Awakening
Entering its 21st year and looking toward the future, the Thailand International Folklore Festival (ThailandIFF) has evolved into a transformative instrument for human and societal development, grounded in the Buddhist principles of the Four Foundations of Mindfulness (Satipaṭṭhāna).
While this framework offers universal applicability for inner peace, it serves as an urgent and potent tool for athletes, artists, and researchers. These groups possess the unique capacity to generate widespread cultural resonance and foster “mass appeal” in post-war eras, breaking through socio-political divides.
To validate this methodology, the author embarked on a rigorous, self-experimental scientific study over a 13-year period (2008–2021). This research involved entering a controlled laboratory environment for 3 days at a time, accompanied by 72 hours of complete fasting. This rigorous protocol was replicated 103 times, totaling 309 days of empirical observation, as documented below:
Achara Phanurat (2008–2021) Research Record of Hibernation and Fasting Experiments of 72 Hours per Session: Totaling 103 Trials (309 Days) Over 13 Years, 103 pages, Yasothon: Wat Pa Wang Nam Thip.
The Four Foundations of Mindfulness (Satipaṭṭhāna 4) serve as the core empirical framework for this practice, guiding individuals to observe and comprehend reality as it truly is, ultimately leading to the cessation of suffering and spiritual liberation:
Mindfulness of the Body (Kāyānupassanā Satipaṭṭhāna): Contemplating the physical form to realize it is not a permanent “self,” but a temporary aggregation of dynamic energy. Practices include tracking the inhalation and exhalation of breath, maintaining constant awareness of all bodily movements and postures, and reflecting on bodily elements (hair, nails, teeth, skin) to dismantle ego-attachment.
Mindfulness of Feelings (Vedanānupassanā Satipaṭṭhāna): Observing the arising, persistence, and cessation of pleasant, painful, or neutral sensations at both physical and mental levels without attachment or aversion.
Mindfulness of the Mind (Cittānupassanā Satipaṭṭhāna): Closely monitoring the current state and functions of consciousness, noting the fluid fluctuations of greed, anger, and delusion.
Mindfulness of Phenomena (Dhammānupassanā Satipaṭṭhāna): Contemplating various mental and natural states for enlightenment and detachment. This includes observing hindrance patterns (such as drowsiness, restlessness, and sensual pleasure), understanding mind-matter phenomena, identifying the root causes of suffering, and realizing the path to its cessation.
ThailandIFF as a Living Research Field and Technology Transfer Platform
ThailandIFF functions as an active field laboratory for universal learning. Through the practice of Satipaṭṭhāna, the festival provides a structured environment for self-development via a three-pronged ecosystem: the temple provides constructive mentorship, the performance platform fosters wise attendance, and the community creates an atmosphere of mindful diligence.
Furthermore, ThailandIFF operates as an advanced energy-technology transfer platform for the World Peace Center.
Over a six-day period, it transmits profound human insights through the universal mediums of body language and energetic alignment. Participants are transformed into active researchers of the Dhamma; they engage in hands-on practice, utilizing themselves as primary subjects, recording their subjective and objective experiences, and acquiring practical knowledge that can be autonomously applied in their home environments.
Quantifiable Indicators of Success
Members of the ThailandIFF network can objectively assess their development against four core conceptual benchmarks: FOLKLORE, SELF-RELIANCE HEALER, INNER PEACE, and WISDOM. The tangible outputs of this movement are evident across socio-economic, geopolitical, and cultural dimensions:
Socio-Economic Harmony and the I-BOWON Model: Social peace has been operationalized as international artists act as catalysts for local relationships and a thriving circular economy. Utilizing the innovative I-BOWON formula (I:International Artists – B:(BAN)Homes – O:Organization-
W:(WAT)Temples – N:NETWORK of Government Sectors), localized networks have flourished. Consequently, five communities in Surin, four in Sisaket, two in Buriram, and two in Nakhon Ratchasima have officially been honored with the prestigious Moral Village Award by the Royal Thai Government.
