Why Does Humidity Seem to Come Back?
- After the compressor reduces output or stops, some condensation may remain on the evaporator coil. If the indoor fan continues moving air across the wet coil, part of that water can evaporate back into the room before it drains away.
- This temporary re-evaporation can sometimes create the sensation that the air has suddenly become more humid even though the room temperature remains almost unchanged.
- It is one reason why humidity may appear to fluctuate more noticeably during mild-but-humid weather, when the room does not require continuous strong cooling.

After the compressor stops, continued airflow across a wet indoor coil can re-evaporate some retained condensate and return that moisture to the room.
