When a Dating App Wants People to Get Off the App: Tinder Launches “Events” in Thailand
What if two people love the same run club, movie, pickleball session or even cold plunge?
A shared activity may offer a more natural starting point for a connection than beginning a conversation from scratch.
That is the idea behind Tinder® Events, a feature designed to connect online discovery with real-life experiences.
Events brings activities from partners and Tinder-created experiences into the app, ranging from running clubs, pickleball and pottery to Pilates, cold plunges, movies, board games, social clubs and concerts.
Users can indicate interest in an event and discover other members interested in attending. At the venue, Photo Verified users can check in through Tinder, opening another opportunity to discover and match with people who are actually there.
After attending, members can also receive an “Attended” badge on their profile - turning a shared experience into a potential conversation starter.
The early numbers from Thailand are notable.
Since the feature launched locally on August 18, 2026, Tinder says Bangkok has become the world's No. 2 city for Events based on daily event-detail page views.
In Thailand, 12% of event-page visitors indicate interest, while Bangkok's average event check-in rate stands at 44%.
Hands-on experiences appear particularly popular. One Cold Plunge & Breathwork event generated more than 11,000 page views.
According to Tinder's post-event survey, 92% of respondents rated their experience positively and 85% said they would participate again.
The development reflects a broader idea behind modern dating: moving from Online Discovery → Shared Interest → Real-Life Connection.
Tinder's own “Moo Ka Ter” Party in Bangkok's Song Wat area is one example, using a casual Thai barbecue gathering by the Chao Phraya River to give singles a setting where conversations can begin more naturally.
From Swipe to Shared Experience, dating apps may increasingly be about more than finding someone on a screen.
The Match may happen online. The real chemistry still has to happen in real life.
