I’m very surprised at how SO many Singaporeans are blinded and misinformed.. About how it is safer to remain in Singapore than to travel overseas, in particular, Bangkok Thailand during this Covid-19 epidemic.
ผมงงมากที่ชาวสิงค์โปร์จำนวนไม่น้อยหูหนวกตาบอดและคิดว่าการอยู่ในสิงคโปร์ปลอดภัยกว่าการเดินทางท่องเที่ยวในต่างแดน โดยเฉพาะอย่างกรุงเทพในช่วงเวลาการระบาดของไวรัสโควิด19
I’m currently in Bangkok and I can confidently tell you that I have never felt more safe. The government of Thailand and its people seem so much more well prepared and educated than my own country.
ผมเพิ่งไปกรุงเทพและรู้สึกมั่นใจที่จะบอกว่าผมไม่เคยรู้สึกปลอดภัยยิ่งกว่านี้เลย ดูเหมือนว่ารัฐบาลไทยและคนไทยเผยแพร่ความรู้และเตรียมรับมือได้ดีกว่ารัฐบาลของผมอย่างมากทีเดียว
I’m always a firm believer of preventive actions rather than corrective actions. No doubt, Singapore have the best healthcare facilities in the region and won praise by many for the protocol in place during such epidemic. But it is seriously lacking in the preventive department. If you have GOOD preventive plans, you do not need to worry too much about your corrective plans. Am I right?
ผมเชื่อมั่นว่า การป้องกันไว้ดีกว่าแก้ จริงอยู่ที่ประเทศสิงคโปร์มีโรงพยาบาลและอุปกรณ์การแพทย์ชั้นยอดที่สุดในภูมิภาคนี้และได้รับการยกย่องในเรื่องนี้ในช่วงมีการระบาดของโรค แต่ก็ขาดหน่วยงานการป้องกัน หากมีแผนมาตรการการป้องกันที่ดีก้อไม่ต้องกังวลมากกับมาตรการการแก้ไข ผมพูดถูกมั้ย
Over here in Bangkok, I was very surprised the moment I step out of the plane. There were hand sanitizers at every corner, every toilet entrance, every counter of the immigration. But In our own country? We have to resort to buying “black market” sanitizers from Carousel or “stealing” from the Boeing airshow counter. Ask yourself why? Is it really due to selfish hoarders?
แต่ที่กรุงเทพนี้ ทำให้ผมทึ่งมากวินาทีที่ก้าวออกจากเครื่องบินได้เห็นน้ำยาล้างมือวางอยู่ทุกมุมเลย ทุกห้องสุขา ทุกเคาน์เตอร์ตรวจคนเข้าเมือง แต่ในประเทศของผมนะหรือ เราต้องหาซื้อเอาเองใน “ตลาดมืด” น้ำยาทำความสะอาดที่สายพานรับกระเป๋า หรือ”จิ๊ก”เอาจากเคาน์เตอร์โชว์ของโบอิ้ง ถามตัวคุณเองดูสิว่าทำไม? หรือเพราะความเห็นแก่ตัวของพวกกักตุนสินค้า?
Stepping into the heart of Bangkok, at EVERY entrance of a mall, hotel or any place where there are large congregation of people, there is a temperature checkpoint with hand sanitizers easily available for every human being. At some upscale malls, there is even someone helping you to dispense the sanitizers without you even touching anything. Even the small Unknown malls has it!
เมื่อเข้าไปถึงใจกลางของกรุงเทพ ทุกทางเข้าห้างสรรพสินค้า โรงแรม หรือแหล่งท่องเที่ยวที่มีคนหนาแน่นจะมีจุดคัดกรองพร้อมเครื่องตรวจวัดอุณหภูมิกับน้ำยาล้างมือพร้อมบริการทุกคน ในห้างหรูจะมีเจ้าหน้าที่ยืนบริการกดน้ำยาใส่มือให้โดยที่เราไม่ต้องใช้มือสัมผัสอะไรเลย แม้แต่ห้างเล็กๆไม่มีชื่อเสียงก็จัดไว้บริการทุกคน
How about in the outskirts of Thailand? That’s even more amazing. I went to Kanchanaburi for the death railway experience. Before we step into the old school train in their old school station, the station master and his assistant went around handing out free face mask and dispensing hand sanitizers to EVERY SINGLE PASSENGER! I looked to my wife in disbelief! In SG, we had to buy face mask at almost $1/piece and we had to use it sparingly or not at all. Because our rulers kept broadcasting to only use mask when you are sick. It’s like being propagated as an offence to wear if you are well. What is this? Why do we even need to be told when we choose to protect ourselves? Shall we report when we pass motion whether we close the lid or not? Since now it’s being suspected that the virus can be spread by aerosol effects.
ส่วนแถบชานเมืองของประเทศไทยละ ยิ่งน่าทึ่งหนักเข้าไปอีก ผมไปกาญจนบุรีเพื่อไปดูสะพานมรณะข้ามแม่น้ำแคว ก่อนที่เราจะไปขึ้นรถไฟโบราณ เราเข้าไปชานชลาสถานีรถไฟโบราณ นายสถานีกับผู้ช่วยของเขาเดินแจกหน้ากากอนามัยฟรีให้กับทุกคนพร้อมกับกดน้ำยาล้างมือให้ทุกคน ผมมองหน้าภรรยาแบบไม่เชื่อสายตาตัวเอง ในสิงคโปร์ เราต้องซื้อหน้ากากอนามัยราคาชิ้นละ1ดอลลาร์สหรัฐ เราต้องใช้อย่างจำกัดจำเขี่ย หรือก้อไม่ใช้เลย เพราะรัฐบาลประกาศทางทีวีว่าให้ใช้หน้ากากอนามัยเมื่อเราป่วย เหมือนว่าถูกสอนให้เรารู้สึกอายที่จะใส่หน้ากากอนามัยเมื่อเราไม่ป่วย นี่มันอะไรกัน? ทำไมเราต้องรอให้มีคนบอกเราเมื่อไหร่ต้องป้องกันตัวเราเอง?หรือเราต้องแจ้งทางการและรอให้บอกเราว่าจะทำอะไรเมื่อไหร่?เพราะเวลานี้ที่สงสัยว่าไวรัสนี้แพร่ระบาดได้ทางลมหายใจ
So what if you have the best healthcare? So what if you have the best recovery rate? So what if you give $100 per day compensation? Why do you need all these if you could have prevented it from even spreading in the first place.
Please do not act like we are a “shit hot” nation and that we are the best at everything in the region. Because sadly we are definitely not. Being reactive is definitely planning to fail In such epidemic. And I’m worried for myself and everyone around me.
มันจะยังไงถ้าว่าเรามีระบบสาธารณสุขที่เยี่ยมยอด? ถ้าเรามีอัตราการหายโรคที่ดีที่สุด? หรือสามารถจ่ายค่าชดเชบ100ดอลลาร์ต่อวัน? ทั้งหมดนี้ไม่จำเป็นเลยหากเรามีมาตรการและแผนป้องกันตั้งแต่ต้น
โปรดอย่าทำให้เราเป็นชาติ“ขี้จุกตูด” และคิดว่าเพราะเราเป็นชาติที่ดีที่สุดในทุกด้านในภูมิภาคนี้ เพราะน่าเศร้าที่แท้จริงแล้วเราไม่ได้เป็นเช่นนั้น การแก้ไขคือการวางแผนที่จะล้มเหลวในการระบาดของโรคนี้ ผมกังวลใจสำหรับตัวเองและคนใกล้ชิดรอบตัว
So my fellow friends and singaporeans.. You think you are safe in SG? Yes, perhaps if you only lock yourself at home, with your 1 year supply of Maggie mee and can food.
กัลยาณมิตรทุกท่าน และชาวสิงคโปร์ทุกท่าน.. ท่านคิดว่าท่านปลอดภัยในสิงคโปร์หรือ? ใช่ครับ อาจเป็นได้ถ้าท่านกักตัวเองอยู่ภายในบ้านพร้อมเสบียงอาหาร1ปี กับหมี่แม็กกี้ และอาหารกระป๋อง
Over and out from Suvarnabhumi Airport! Now I’m fearful of going back to SG from this safe haven..
ขณะนี้ผมกำลังเหินฟ้าออกจากสนามบินสุวรรณภูมิ ผมหวาดกลัวที่จะเดินทางกลับไปสิงคโปร์ จากแดนสวรรค์ที่ปลอดภัยแห่งนี้..
