I often think, in this latter connexion, of terribly unfortunate remark made by the senior statesman in the hearing of the Financial Adviser, Mr. Doll, on 7th June last to the effect that the king should keep out of politics. Two days later King Ananda met his violent death and there are some in Siam who whisper that here in sense was a repetition of the grim drama on the steps of Canterbury Cathedral When Thomas a Becket was assassinated.
I am sending copies of this despatch to Berne and Singapore

ผมคิดอยู่บ่อยครั้งถึงถ้อยคำของรัฐบุรุษอาวุโสที่ไม่บังควรอย่างยิ่งที่จะกล่าวออกมา ซึ่งนายดอลที่ปรึกษาทางด้านการคลัง ได้ยินคำพูดนี้เมื่อวันที่ ๗ มิถุนายนว่า กษัตริย์ไม่ควรเข้ามายุ่งกับการเมือง สองวันต่อมาพระเจ้าอยู่หัวอานันท์ก็สวรรคตอย่างโหดร้าย เเละมีการกระซิบกระซาบในประเทศว่า เป็นการซ้ำรอยเหตุการณ์ร้าย ณ ขั้นบรรไดทางขึ้นโบสถ์เเคนเทอร์เบอรีที่ทอมัส อะ เบ็กเก็ตถูกสังหาร
