8 Things that I Wanted to Turn Back Time and Tell My Own Self 20 Years Ago
I’m a lawyer, a diver, an amateur boxer. Recently, I’ve started learning to ride a horse (and fallen off it once already. Mission accomplished!).
I love to travel, try new things (food included) and experience different cultures. And that’s part of my plan after I early retire in the next few years.

Now that I’m in my middle age. I’ve learned many things. Every time when I looked back, I would think to myself that even though I couldn’t really go back to tell my younger self but at least it might be useful for someone. So, I decided to write this article.
Here are a few things that I wanted to tell my-juvenile-self if I could turn back time.
1. Take care of yourself
Be nice to your body, your skin, your teeth, your health. Work out more often. Eat good food. It’s way harder to do so when you get older. I was admitted to a hospital twice this year, albeit previously always in good health. First, I was in ICU and second, I got my brain scanned. The symptoms were caused from my ignorance of signs that my body was trying to warn me.
2. Education isn’t only in classrooms
There’s a lot more in your life which only education in classrooms alone can’t help you thrive. Although, I can’t deny that traditional education is important but out-of-classroom education plus experience have taken the lead in my profession. Find your expertise and build it in the way that no one could effortlessly compete with. Nowadays, it’s uncomplicated to learn from anywhere. Be agile to new ways of learning.
3. Don’t worry about small things
I used to get upset quite rashly with small stuff like when my coffee order was wrong or someone cut me off while I was driving. I’ve now realised that these things don’t take charge in my life. My mental peace is worth more than those few unpleasant minutes. Just let go.
4. Don’t work too hard
Your employer or clients may be impressed with your dedication but who cares so long as your contribution serves their objectives professionally. Your tireless dedication will be forgotten as soon as you depart. Work smart, be responsible and honest to your career instead of sacrificing the whole life for it.
5. Do whatever that you’re happy with
Just don’t care whether it may look silly or pointless while it doesn’t hurt anyone. Your time is limited. One day, you’ll be gone. Make every second count.
6. Don’t judge people
Everyone comes from a different background, has their own life experience and mindset. They have equal freedom to think, talk and act just like you do. Let’s embrace the difference.
7. Don’t procastinate
If there is anything you want to do or even love to do, just do it. Don’t wait until you get ready. You’ll be ready once you get started. If you want to go jogging, just grab your gear and go. When you have too much on your plate, prioritise it and do one thing at a time.

8. Anything that has passed, just drop it
You’ll waste your time if you keep ruminating about what you should have or could have done. Everything in your life makes you, you. Learn from it. You’ve also succeeded in the past. Even in a little achievement, it’s your medal. Be proud.
These are a few thoughts from my point of view. Not only to share with others but also to remind myself of what I might forget. Hope this could be of some help to any of my readers.
