หลายคนอาจคุ้นเคยกับเทคโนโลยีบล็อกเชน (Blockchain) ที่ถูกนำไปใช้ในระบบการเงินแบบดิจิทัล แต่จริง ๆ แล้วในอุตสาหกรรมรถยนต์ขับเคลื่อนอัตโนมัตินั้น เทคโนโลยีบล็อกเชนก็เป็นส่วนสำคัญมากที่จะช่วยให้รถยนต์ขับเคลื่อนอัตโนมัตินั้นใช้ได้จริงอย่างปลอดภัย
เคท ลอว์เรนซ์ (Cate Lawrence) ผู้เชี่ยวชาญและนักเขียนของ The Next Web ได้เขียนเกี่ยวกับบทบาทของบล็อกเชนในอุตสาหกรรมดังกล่าวไว้ว่า ในการจะนำรถยนต์ขับเคลื่อนอัตโนมัติมาใช้งานจริงนั้น ต้องมีการติดตั้งระบบรับส่งข้อมูลอัตโนมัติกับอุปกรณ์อื่น ๆ มากมาย อาทิ สัญญาณไฟจราจร ที่จอดรถ หรือแม้แต่ระบบจ่ายเงิน
ข้อมูลของรถ อาทิ จำนวนไมล์ แบตเตอรี่คงเหลือ ค่าใช้จ่ายในการชาร์จไฟ ข้อมูลประกัน หรือข้อมูลทางการเงิน เมื่ออยู่ในระบบอัตโนมัติแล้วอาจเสี่ยงต่อการถูกโจรกรรมหรือปลอมแปลงโดยอาชญากรไซเบอร์ ซึ่งระบบของเทคโนโลยีบล็อกเชนจะเข้ามาช่วยแก้ไขป้องกันส่วนนี้ได้
ตัวอย่างหนึ่งคือบริษัท Car IQ ซึ่งได้พัฒนาเครือข่ายการทำธุรกรรมแบบ Machine-2-Machine (M2M) ให้กับรถยนต์ ซึ่งเป็นระบบที่เครื่องจักรหรืออุปกรณ์ต่าง ๆ สามารถทำธุรกรรมระหว่างกันได้โดยตรงไม่ต้องอาศัยตัวกลางทางการเงิน โดยดำเนินการบนระบบบล็อกเชนที่ใช้ Smart Contract ทำให้สามารถมั่นใจในความปลอดภัยได้ รถยนต์สามารถจ่ายค่าน้ำมัน ค่าทางด่วน ค่าจอดรถได้อัตโนมัติ ไม่ต้องเสี่ยงกับการใช้บัตรเครดิตที่อาจถูกโจรกรรมข้อมูล

Blockchain technology helps create self-driving cars
We’ve heard about the lovefest between Blockchain technology and mobility for ages, with lots of hype around digital finance. What about the autonomous vehicles industry, does it all work safely and why should we care?
Cate Lawrence, an expert and writer at The Next Web wrote about the role of blockchain in the industry, that in order to bring self-driving cars to use in real life, the automatic transmission system must be enabled with road conditions and infrastructure such as traffic lights, parking meters, and payment system.
Machines handling data like vehicle mileage, battery charging levels and cost, insurance details or financial information once in an automated system, are vulnerable to theft or fraud by cybercriminals. Therefore, the system of blockchain technology will help to solve this problem.
The most recent effort is by Car IQ. The company has developed the first payment network to allow connected cars and trucks to pay Machine-2-Machine (M2M) transactions. Vehicles can pay for fuel, tolls, parking, and more without a credit card or intermediaries. In which the most significant issues of M2M payments are security and authenticity under a Blockchain using Smart Contract.
By applying blockchain to all forms of data transmission during the autonomous vehicle operation, users can rely more on the safety of this unfamiliar technology
