Tha Phae Gate, located on the east side of Chiang Mai's Old City, was once the main entrance for traders and monks in the Lanna Kingdom. It remains a central spot for festivals and the Sunday Walking Street Market. The city walls, built in 1296 by King Mengrai, originally protected the capital with gates on all four sides and a surrounding moat. Though partially intact, they still offer a glimpse into Chiang Mai’s historic past.
