How to Create Texture Effects Without Extra Materials
Open Adobe Illustrator and prepare your illustration. This time, we'll use AI tools to create natural, textured effects directly. Follow along with these simple steps!

Add an Engraving Effect
Select your illustration, go to the top menu and choose Effect > Pixelate > Mezzotint, then select the type — Coarse Dots (you can choose the type based on the size of your artwork). Scale your illustration and adjust the noise size until it looks right. With the illustration still selected, go to Object > Expand Appearance — this is the key step!

Apply a Texture Effect
Keep the illustration selected, then go to Object > Image Trace > Make, and in the bar at the top, click the icon for Advanced Options to open the Image Trace panel. Set Mode to Threshold and adjust Paths/ Corners/ Noise under Advanced according to the look you want. Once you're satisfied, click Expand. Now you have a nice textured effect!

Add Strokes and Adjust ColorsBring the illustration back, then go to Object > Path > Offset Path to create an outline. Tweak the colors as needed. Now your illustrated part is done!
