My first-time experience at the Warrix Thailand Earth Trail in Kanchanaburi sounds absolutely magical. I love how I dove into this new challenge at age 40+ with such enthusiasm and determination. My preparation story is quite relatable - ordering trail gear from Shopee with same-day delivery and booking the River Kwai Resotel, without extensive research shows the spontaneous spirit that often leads to the best adventures!
The 3 hours drive through the national park forest must have been quite an experience, especially that final 5 km stretch up the mountain.
The race itself sounds incredible - from the well-organized event with plenty of food booths and facilities to that amazing moment when I transitioned from the initial 500 m downhill and on pavement into the forest trails. My description of the fresh mountain air, the mist on the peaks, and how the clean air made breathing feel so full and energizing really captures the magic of trail running.
I particularly enjoyed the final 2 km uphill by using yoga breathing techniques and maintaining mental strength when others were taking the ambulance van.
That moment of switching from walking to running pose whenever you saw the photographer is both hilarious and so human! Finishing in about an hour while taking time to enjoy the scenery and capture memories sounds like the perfect approach for a first trail race.
The fact that I’m already signed up for the next Warrix Thailand Earth Trail at Phu Toei in Suphan Buri shows I’m truly caught the trail running bug! I hope that my story is a wonderful reminder that it's never too late to try something new and that sometimes the most rewarding experiences come from stepping outside our comfort zones. Best of luck with me for the upcoming race in November!
