Prologue (Episode 3) : ♨️ A strange craving, a random plan, and the fate called Gunma
Even before choosing where to go, I had this strange, persistent craving for real Japanese hot springs — authentic 温泉 (onsen) where steam rises from the earth like the planet is sighing.
I remembered hearing about 草津 (Kusatsu) in 群馬県 (Gunma Prefecture) — a legendary onsen town famous for the steaming 湯畑 (Yubatake) and healing mineral water.
Perfect for someone whose soul had been lightly pan-fried by offshore life.
My wish list was simple:
• a mountain trail to walk off my stress
• a quiet 神社 (jinja) to reflect (and judge my life choices)
• a small town where time moves slower than my thoughts
Just those things—nothing fancy.
And somehow, with no real planning, no destiny signs, just exhaustion + instinct + random luck…
I chose Gunma.
A place I’d never thought of visiting, yet it welcomed me like an old friend yelling from across the street:
“Yo! Sawasdee! Welcome to the middle of nowhere—hope you brought warm clothes!”
