เวลาคิดถึงบ้าน คนไทยในต่างแดนคงนัดรวมตัวสังสรรค์กันในช่วงเทศกาลต่าง ๆ แต่บางเมือง ก็ไม่ได้มีไทยทาวน์ หรือหาวัตถุดิบไทย ๆ ไม่ได้ง่าย ๆ ‘เทสซาโลนิกิ (Thessaloniki)’ เมืองใหญ่อันดับที่ 2 ของกรีซ ก็เป็นเมืองหนึ่งที่ไม่มีชุมชนคนไทย และไม่คุ้นเคยกับวัฒนธรรมไทยเสียเท่าไหร่ อย่างไรก็ดี 2 ปีก่อน ซอฟต์พาวเวอร์ไทยอย่าง ‘สงกรานต์’ ก็ไปถึงนครแห่งนี้ในหมู่นักศึกษาและกลุ่มเพื่อนนานาชาติ สะท้อนจิตวิญญาณของเทสซาโลนิกิซึ่งพร้อมต้อนรับทุกสิ่งและทุกคนด้วยใจเปิดกว้าง

Thais living abroad often gather during holidays so that they can feel closer to home. However, a Thaitown does not exist in every major city, nor are Thai ingredients found easily. Thessaloniki, Greece’s second-largest city, is one of those places; some of its residents are barely familiar with Thai culture. Yet, two years ago, Songkran made its way to Salonica, celebrated by a group of international students and friends. In a way, this reflects the Greek city’s open heart and its liveliness.
